James C. Porreca, 84, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026. Born in South Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Silvio and Vingenzia (Spinelli) Porreca.
At the age of 17, Jim enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He later enjoyed a distinguished career with the Philadelphia Police Department, retiring as a respected K-9 officer and handler of his beloved police dog, Atlas. A dedicated K-9 trainer, he helped prepare numerous police dogs for service with law enforcement agencies. After moving to Martinsburg, Jim established his own private investigative agency, where he continued to put his years of law enforcement experience to work. He later served as a deputy sheriff at the Blair County Courthouse under Judge Sullivan, continuing his lifelong commitment to protecting and serving his community.
Jim enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at Raystown Lake, and never missed an opportunity to browse Leighty's Flea Market in search of hidden treasures. Even in retirement, his love for dogs never faded, and his faithful companion, Molly, brought him great comfort and joy.
He is survived by his loving partner, Ruth Howsare; his children: Jimmy Porreca (Jennifer), Lisa Burris (Will), Tom Porreca (Gwen) and Val Orr (Will); his stepchildren, Charmayne Raia (Joe) and Anthony Diviney (Penni); his brother, Anthony Porreca (Susan); along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Sonja; as well as his wives, Marge and Betty.
In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
Arrangements are by Fink & Stone Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Martinsburg.
