Franklin R. Sweed Jr.
June 9, 1939 – July 4, 2026
Franklin R. Sweed Jr., 87, of rural La Jose, Pa., died at Maple Heights Health & Rehab Center, Ebensburg. He was the son of Franklin R. Sweed Sr. and Mary Christina Smith, and raised as a foster son of Pearl and Merle Hockenberry.
Franklin is survived by sons: Robert (Diane) Sweed of Altoona, Ronald Sweed of Schuylkill, Pa., Paul of Irvona and Will of Altoona; daughters: Doris Hanson (Curtis) of Ebensburg, Deborah Blake (Charles) of Westover and Joan Davis (Scott) of Alverda; sisters, Jane Huber of Osceola Mills and Barb Tressler of Philipsburg; 28 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Franklin was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents; his wife, Marilyn Westover; brothers: Francis Mooney, Louis Sweed and Vincent Sweed; sisters, Sarah Sweed and Susan Hynd; foster sisters: Jane Slovosky, Edeth Ninosky and Isabell Bretzon; and foster brothers, Curt and Kenneth Rowles.
Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., Irvona; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at La Jose Word of God Church, with the Rev. Leonard Kinney.
