Beverly A. Barner

Nov. 5, 1936 – July 24, 2026

Beverly A. Barner, 89, of Tyrone, died Friday at The Preserve at Cedarwood, Tyrone. She was born in Tyrone, the daughter of John E. and Ruth M. (Watson) Hand-Neugebauer. On the day she was born, her grandmother gave her the nickname "Toogie," a name that stayed with her throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Donald (Doreen) Hand, William Hand and Kenny Hand; and her husband of 56 years, Francis G. "Bud" Barner.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Don) Dillon Jr. of Tyrone; her son, Jeff (Brenda) Barner of Valencia; and her three beloved granddaughters: twins, Caitlinn (Michael) Gomes and Jenna (Daniel) Enck, both of Altoona, and Olivia Barner of Monroeville. She is also survived by her sisters, Pat Wilson of Tyrone and Linda (Ken) Reeder of Latrobe; her brother, Larry (Kathy) Neugebauer of Duncansville; and many special nieces and nephews.

Beverly graduated from Tyrone High School in 1954. On May 5, 1956, she married "Bud" at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, where the ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Budd Smith.

She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, delicious home meals -- especially her famous mashed potatoes and ham pot pie -- and her spotless housekeeping. Beverly enjoyed playing pinochle with her family, meeting former classmates for lunch and spending time with neighbors that became lifelong friends.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, Owen and Leah Gomes and Natalie and Benjamin Enck.

At Beverly's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. She will be laid to rest at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
