Bernadette A. Byrne

Feb. 18, 1943 – July 5, 2026

Bernadette A. Byrne, 83, of Ebensburg, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Spangler, daughter of the late Cletus and Frances Ruth (Wayne) Kirkpatrick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Byrne; brothers: James, Leo Wayne, Lawrence Jerry and Father Cletus Kirkpatrick; and sisters: Barbara Fenchak, Mary Fenello and Ruth Johnson.

Bernadette is survived by her children: Cynthia Byrne of Ebensburg, Bobbi (Joshua Poertner) Byrne of Indianapolis, Julie (David) Kovach of Ebensburg, Brian (Victoria) Byrne of Hollidaysburg and Susan (Jody Dumm) Byrne-Dumm of Nicktown; and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, John “Jack” Kirkpatrick; and sister, Kathleen Verchick; as well as many numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernadette had worked many years as an X-Ray Tech for Dr. Mastrine’s office.

She was a long-time member of Holy Name Catholic Church and spent time volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul.

Bernadette was well known for her baking, which she loved to do. She loved her family and enjoyed visiting and spending time with all her children and grandchildren, and time spent with her canine companion, “Molly.”

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, with the Rev. Brian Warchola, celebrant. Committal will be at St. Benedict’s Cemetery, Carrolltown.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Holy Name School Angel Fund or Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.
