Richie E. Ashburn, 77, of Indian Land, S.C., died the evening of May 28, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late John R. Ashburn and Anna Harriett (Lindsey) Ashburn Ferguson.
He married Deborah Faith Ocker on May 11, 1974, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah; four children: son, Paul Stephen Ocker (Tracie) of Altoona; son, Chad Edward Ashburn (Tina) of Copperas Cove, Texas; son, Jason Myles Ocker (Jennifer) of Tyrone; and daughter, January Alicia Conrad of Fort Mill, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Thomas George Ashburn of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; and a sister, Shirley Marie Wiseman of Altoona.
Richie was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Lawrence Ashburn.
Mr. Ashburn attended Belair United Methodist Church in Indian Land, S.C.
He was a 1966 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Conflict.
Richie retired on May 15, 2005, as a maintenance supervisor in the Office of Employment Security, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, after 32 years’ service.
He enjoyed fishing and NASCAR, where he was especially a fan of Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed his street rod. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
A private memorial service with military funeral honors will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
