Richard L. Smith, 73, of Altoona, died on June 12, 2026, at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late David B. and Virginia (Parsons) Smith.
Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer L. Smith (Joshua); a granddaughter, Kailee B. Smith (Dylan); a great-granddaughter, Atlee M. Focht; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mr. Smith was a member of Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, Altoona.
He was a 1973 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
Richard retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in the right-of-way department as a machine operator following 34 years’ service.
He enjoyed watching trains, being outdoors, food and fireworks, especially on the Fourth of July. His greatest love, however, was spending time with his friends and family, especially his great-granddaughter.
Friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., with the Rev. Steve Moore officiating.
Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
