Mary L. Maidl
March 9, 1939 – May 28, 2026
Maidl
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary L. Maidl. Her last day on Earth was peaceful and at home, surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law, Louise (Maidl) and John Leonard.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agatha (Art) Maidl; brothers: John (Hella), Paul (V. Gail) and Alois (Katharina) Art, in Germany; and a sister, Mary Ann.
Mary was born in Altoona, graduated from Altoona Catholic High School in 1957 and worked for Warnaco for 33 years. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church until she relocated to live with her daughter, where she became a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Jupiter, Fla., and joined their Young at Heart group.
Mary’s family, including numerous nieces and nephews, and her friends were always the center of her world. She was very proud of her German heritage and enjoyed both German and country music. Her favorite song was “I Just Want to Dance with You” by George Strait. She also enjoyed camping, being in nature, bingo, scratch-offs and slot machines.
Mary’s presence will be deeply missed, especially her warm hugs and those caring check-up calls asking, “What’s going on?” and “What’s the weather like?” Mary was also known for her famous carrot cake.
We let go of a remarkable woman, a loving mother and a kind soul. As we mourn her physical absence with us, we celebrate the love, joy and kindness that were the very essence of Mary’s being. We’ll be saving a dance for you, Mary.
A Mass will be held at St. Peter’s in Jupiter, Fla., as well as at St. Mary’s in Altoona, which will be followed by a celebration of life at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (michaeljfox.org).
