Linda (Tomlinson) Porter, a devoted nurse, loving mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother, passed away May 22, 2026, in Tucson, Ariz., after a long-term illness. She was 84 years old.
Born in Altoona, Linda lived a life marked by compassion, dedication and unwavering strength.
A proud graduate of Altoona Catholic High School, Class of 1959, Linda went on to pursue her lifelong calling in nursing, completing her training at Wilmington Nursing School. She dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the profession, working first in Wilmington, Del., and later at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. Her colleagues remember her as a strong-willed advocate for her patients, a gifted mentor and a dependable teammate. Linda remained committed to her calling well into her later years, continuing her work as a medical-surgical floor nurse until the age of 74.
Beyond her profession, Linda was known for her vibrant spirit and warmth. She delighted family and friends with her legendary Halloween parties and found joy in the companionship of animals throughout her life. A lifelong pet owner, she held a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Buddy. Linda was also an enthusiastic fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, rarely missing a chance to cheer on her team.
Linda is survived by her son, Adrian Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; her granddaughter, Jasmine Coles; and four great-grandchildren who brought her great pride and happiness. She is also survived by her siblings: Sandra Stevenson, Stephen Tomlinson, Michael Tomlinson and Deborah Broughman.
She was preceded in death by her son, TSgt. Richard F. Coles; her granddaughter, Naomi Coles; and her parents, Francis "Bud" Tomlinson and H. Jane Tomlinson.
A memorial service honoring Linda's life and her dedicated service as a nurse was held on May 31, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson. Her legacy of courage, compassion, resilience and devotion to others will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Linda Tomlinson Porter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, colleagues and the many patients whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Linda at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Marzoni's Restaurant, 164 Patch Way Road, Duncanville.
