Lee Douglas Swinsburg, 79, of Harrisburg, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away in his sleep on June 17, 2026, at home.
He was born Feb. 28, 1947, in Hazleton, son of the late Howard and Ann (Marsch) Swinsburg and was raised in Easton.
Lee lived a life exemplary of servant-leadership. He started his career as a teacher in Harrisburg public schools. He later received his doctorate in education from Penn State University and had a 38-year career serving his community as principal and superintendent of the Williamsburg Community School District. He also served for 24 years with the U.S. Army and National Guard until retiring as lieutenant colonel. He was a member of the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren. He had leadership roles with his church and numerous community organizations including Williamsburg and West Hanover Lions Clubs, Meals on Wheels and West Hanover Van Service.
Lee was a devoted husband, father, and Pop-Pop. He enjoyed reading and traveling with his wife and family, especially to the beach. He also loved playing pickle ball and ping-pong.
Lee is survived by his wife, Bonnie L. (Bechtel) Swinsburg; daughters, Robin (Jay) Joseph and Lisa (Ian) Baker; son, Brad (Jesenia) Swinsburg; grandchildren: Seth Joseph, Grace (Matthew) Lee, Maya Swinsburg and Brett and Nevin Baker; and a brother, Gary Swinsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, 335 E. Areba Ave., Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10 a.m.
Interment with military honors will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on Spring Creek COB – Watch.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to Williamsburg Lions Club or West Hanover Lions Club.
