Kevin L. Johnson, 63, Portsmouth, Va., formerly of King, passed away peacefully May 28, 2026, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the Rev. Paul D. Johnson and the late Shelby (Claycomb) Johnson.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Lisa Sharpe Johnson; his daughter, Kerri Johnson; his son, Michael Johnson in South Carolina; stepdaughter, Lora Fara Smith (Weston) of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Alyza and Camron Backay in South Carolina; his sister, Crystal Johnson Monk of Virginia Beach; his father, the Rev. Paul D. Johnson (Michelle) of Altoona; and many dear cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shelby Johnson.

Kevin was raised in the Claysburg Church of the Brethren.

He was a graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel High School and Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center in 1980. While in high school, he became a Certified EMT Technician, making ambulance runs for Claysburg Ambulance Association.

After graduation, Kevin enlisted in the United States Navy, following in his family’s footsteps. He served on active duty from Sept. 20, 1980, until his retirement on March 31, 2001, as HMC(SW/NAC).

He attended Hospital Corpsman A School and graduated as an honor student in Cardiovascular Technologist School at the Naval School of Health Sciences, and was then assigned to Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Va. He was then called to serve at Fleet Hospital Five, Saudi Arabia, in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Kevin advanced to Chief Petty Officer and served as Enlisted Detailer, Director for Nursing Services, LCPO, Internal Medicine Department, and Head Military Personnel Division at retirement. Kevin served his country proudly and with respect.

Following Navy retirement, Kevin became president and CEO of four Harley-Davidson dealerships in Portsmouth and Outer Banks, N.C. He created Outer Banks Bike Weeks. Also combining his love for the Navy and motorcycles, he created Fleetride and Rumble Through the Tunnels. He organized many charity rides for military personnel. Kevin loved to ride his Harley back home to visit his Dad in Pennsylvania and participate in Johnstown’s Thunder in the Valley Bike ride and the PA Hero Walk Through Ligonier.

Kevin loved his Great Dane, Harley, and his two Chihuahua dogs, Tank and Sadie.

After 15 years with Harley-Davidson, Kevin became a civilian employee at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center as Congressional Liaison Representative. He was a staunch supporter of America’s veterans.

A military service will be held in Portsmouth. Graveside services with military honors will be held at St. Mark’s Cemetery, King, at the convenience of the family.
