James Alton Snouffer, 78, of Altoona, died Sunday morning at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born in Tyrone, a son of the late James Alton and Marian C. (Rhine) Snouffer.
On June 26, 1971, he married Winifred M. Davinsizer at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bellwood.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Anna Riley and Jamie (Kris) Ulrich; four grandchildren: Whitney, Quinten (Morgan), Ian and Gavin; and two great-grandchildren, Ivan and Aviana.
He was preceded in death by son-in-law, David Riley; and uncles, Donald and Clifford Rhine.
James was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. He retired as a track foreman at Norfolk Southern.
James enjoyed attending high school football games, including the Bellwood Blue Devils.
He also enjoyed going to his family’s sporting events.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at the funeral home with Chaplain Tony Conrad officiating.
Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
The family suggests that contributions in James’ memory be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
