Dec. 2, 1945 – June 13, 2026

Auker

George W. Auker, 80, of Altoona, passed away Saturday at the home where he raised his family and lived for 49 years. He was the son of the late Harry L. and Iola (White) Auker.

On Aug. 18, 1971, at Southern Baptist Church in Cumberland, Md., he married Anlee (Callis) Auker, who survives. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this August.

Also surviving are his three children: Scott, Wayne (Amanda) and Stephanie Gottshall; and seven grandchildren: Hillary, Sophie, Andrew, Brandon and Cameron Auker and Jaiden and Kayla Gottshall. He is also survived by a foster sister, Florence Wray in Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Emma Auker; and his three brothers: Robert Sr., Donald and Fred.

George was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School. He worked in the vending business for more than 30 years before retiring.

In his younger days, George enjoyed camping with his family and his brothers. He liked playing pool often with his brother, Fred. Every spring, he planted a garden and tended to it all summer long. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. In recent years, he became a fan of Caitlin Clark and enjoyed watching her basketball games. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, his children and grandkids, and especially his wife, cooking her dinner every night and tending to all her needs.

A private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
