Charles J. Stewart

Charles J. Stewart, 88, of Tyrone, went to be with Jesus on Saturday after a brief illness. He was born in Tyrone, a son of the late Jesse Jr. and Edith (Noal) Stewart.

He was married Aug. 8, 1964, to Doris Jean Hodge, who preceded him on Nov. 20, 1986. He then married Letitia "Tish" McCulley, who survives at the Cedarwood Preserve.

He is survived by twin daughters, Rebecca Perez (Abel) of Tyrone, and Ruth Monn (Bill) of Shippensburg; five grandchildren: Deborah, Ra, Andrew, Ben and Kendra; five great-grandchildren; a stepson, Scott (Lauri); a stepdaughter, Tammy; a grandson, Brock (Ashley); and many more great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Lee and his wife, Doris, and their daughter, Deborah Jean.

He was a graduate of Tyrone High School in 1955 and a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in education.

Charles was an elementary teacher in Tyrone for 26 years. He was active for many years as a Sunday school teacher and deacon at the Tyrone First Assembly of God Church. When possible, he and Tish attended the Tyrone Alliance Church.

He always enjoyed hunting, fishing, genealogy and traveling. Mostly, he was known as a faithful provider and caregiver for his family.

Friends will be received from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Tyrone Alliance Church with the Rev. Carl A. Schmidt officiating. Interment will be at Bald Eagle Cemetery.
