Barbara Ann Ickes, 81, of Claysburg, passed away late Monday morning, surrounded by family and loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.
She is survived by her children, Ronald Ickes Jr. (Vicky) and Amber Ickes; and her beloved grandchildren: Nicole Ickes, Kristie Strayer and Mary Ann Ickes. She also had three great-grandchildren: Deegan, Henley and Braxton.
Barbara comes from a big family of nine brothers and sisters, including herself. Surviving are sisters: Sandy (John) Pearson, Connie (Floyd “Bud”) Sprow, Sharon Showalter and Gaynelle (Charles “Sunny”) Stevens; two brothers, Jeff and Steve Showalter; multiple nieces and nephews; and Robert Weyandt, someone who was close to her and a huge part of her life for decades.
She was preceded in death by her late parents, Ruth and James Showalter; husband, Ronald Ickes; son, David Ickes; and two brothers, Jim and Bill Showalter.
Barb dedicated most of her life to caring for people. She worked as a CNA at Blair Christian Home for decades.
Those who knew Barb knew that family meant the world to her. She never missed a family function, sporting event or concert.
She was always quick-witted and never held back what was on her mind, or what she really thought. She also loved baking and decorating cakes.
Barb will be deeply missed, but Heaven gained one more amazing angel.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Harry E. Miller Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., 810 Bedford St., Claysburg, with Pastor Erik Lingenfelter officiating.
Interment will be at Greenfield Cemetery.
