Aug. 2, 1930 – May 27, 2026

Settle

Shirley A. (Vipond) Settle, 95, of Duncansville, passed into the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday. She was born in Altoona, to the late John S. Vipond and Catharine Austin Vipond. She was the youngest and last remaining sibling of William Vipond, Robert Vipond, Martha Louise Vipond Gray and Philip Vipond.

On Aug. 12, 1950, she married the love of her life, Richard E. Settle, in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1984.

Together they built a loving family and are survived by their daughters: Cathleen Alberts (William), Penney Clark (John) and Barbara K. Koeck; granddaughters: Sarah Estright (Todd), Rachel Barley (Adam), Ashley Clark and Jillianne Clark; and a beloved great-granddaughter, Phoebe Barley, who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Shirley found great joy in spending time with those she loved, sharing her faith and rocking in her cherished rocking chair.

She was a devoted member of First Church of God, where she faithfully volunteered, hosted Bible studies and led morning hymns for many years. Her faith was the foundation of her life, reflected daily through her kindness, service and love for others.

Many things were constant at Grandma's house -- Matlock playing on the television, her wonderful stories, Monday pancakes and the very best recipe for the perfect nap, completed only through changing to pajamas. Her quiet time each afternoon was often spent reading her Bible. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth and unwavering love. The memories made there will be treasured forever.

Shirley will be remembered for her gentle spirit, steadfast faith and deep devotion to her family.

Her love, wisdom and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Friends and family will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2026, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. by Pastor Dale DiBernardinis.

Interment will be held at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
