Norma J. Thompson, 89, went home to be with the Lord on May 14, 2026, at UPMC Altoona emergency room.
In 1966, she married Ralph D. Thompson of Juniata, with whom she shared many years of family and memories.
Norma is survived by her five children: Karen Hughes and husband, Patrick of Altoona, Ralph Thompson Jr. and wife, Sharon of North Carolina, Sherry McCarthy and husband, David of Altoona, Shelly Fox and husband, David of Mechanicsburg and Jamie Thompson of West Virginia. She was a loving grandmother to Christopher McCarthy and partner, Kelli of Altoona, Nicholas McCarthy and wife, Alexa of South Carolina, Jordyn McCarthy of Altoona and Austin Ballenger of West Virginia. Norma was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Isabelle McCarthy, Dominic McCarthy and Emerson McCarthy.
Norma was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School and a devoted member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church. She was active in the Kings Crusaders Sunday school class, the vocal choir, bell choir and also helped with the beginner Sunday school class.
Throughout her life, Norma worked at Boyer Candy, Butterick, Gable’s Department Store and the Silk Mill. She had a deep passion for WWII history and cherished spending time with her family. Norma devoted her life to caring for others. She was a selfless and faithful woman who gave all she had to her family and to the Lord. Her kindness, strength and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at The Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, where funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m.
