Gingrich
Joyce Carolyn (Gothe) Gingrich, born in Pittsburgh, was the devoted wife of Warren A. Gingrich for 70 years, and believed to be a direct descendent of the most influential writer/poet in the German language, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. She departed from this world peacefully, with her family by her side on Sunday at 6:30 in the morning.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Mr. and Mrs. Gingrich were married on Aug. 5, 1950, and moved to Altoona in 1955, where they settled into family life, started a business and both became actively involved in their community. Joyce served as: a Welcome Wagon volunteer and then Vice President of Welcome Wagon, President of the Altoona Jaycee-ettes, Den Leader for Boy Scouts of America Pack #46, President of the Altoona Dandy Lions and President of the Hollidaysburg YMCA
Women’s Auxiliary. Joyce also volunteered in her church communities, serving both First Lutheran Church in Altoona and later serving First Presbyterian Church in Hollidaysburg.
Joyce was a devoted wife to Warren, a loving mother to five children, an attentive and thoughtful grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and a dear and loving friend to so many. She enjoyed spending summers at her home in Ocean City, N.J., where she made many special memories with her family and friends. Joyce loved to entertain, plan and host parties. Gatherings with family and friends filled her heart with joy.
Her passing will leave a void in many lives.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren A. Gingrich; three brothers: Charles Gothe, Donald Gothe and Robert Gothe; and a sister, Twyla (Gothe) Kernic.
Surviving are her five children: Jill Miller (Kerry) of Fayetteville, Pa.; Gary G. Gingrich (Jill) of Altoona; Beth Smith (Keith Boiling) of Springs, Pa.; Diane George of Lebanon, Pa.; and Mark T. Gingrich (Rachel) of Hollidaysburg, and their families.
