Joseph Thomas “Joe” Metzgar, 82, of Altoona, passed away Monday morning at his residence. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Joseph Thomas Sr. and Willette (Eckenrode) Metzgar.
Joe married Camille C. Kulikowski on June 23, 1973. She preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2024.
He is survived by his two sons and their families: Brian and Kasie Metzgar and their children: Daisy, Aurora, Kal and Kara; Jason and Jennifer Metzgar and their children: Emma, Brayden, Kaitlyn, Paityln and Benson. Joe is also survived by his sister, Kay Kruk of Phoenixville; and his standard poodle, Majik; and labradoodle, Mabel.
Joe was a graduate of York College, where he met and fell in love with Camille. He went on to serve with the United States Air Force.
Joe was a field auditor for the Department of Public Welfare with over 40 years of service. He was also a Logan Township supervisor with over two decades of dedication.
He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.
Joe enjoyed gardening and caring for Majik and Mabel. He ultimately loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and attending their extracurricular activities.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus, 411 Wopsononock Ave., Altoona, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Father Brian Norris officiating. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.
The arrangements for Joe’s service have been thoughtfully provided by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., Altoona.
