James Francis “Jim” McMullen, 78, Ashville, passed Sunday, May 17, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born Dec. 3, 1947, in Ashville, son of Charles and Sarah (Watt) McMullen.

He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Becky Sherry; brother, John McMullen; twin sisters, Catherine Leise and Teresa Lengyel; sisters, Patty Kibler and Margaret Whiteford; and brother-in-law, Phil Leise.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Eileen (Byrne) McMullen; children: Sandy (Pat) Sherry, Nancy (Rick) Williams, Scott (Laura) McMullen, Rich (Amanda) McMullen, Brian (Charlotte)

McMullen, Debbie (Ed) Watt, Karen (Matt) Knoll, Kristy (Matt) Lidwell, and Susie (Sebastian) Carnicella; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne (Eileen) McMullen; sisters, Emma McMullen and Agnes (Andy) Lynch; sister-in-law, Mary McMullen; brothers-in-law, Tim Lengyel, Dave Kibler and Len Whiteford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim worked as a farmer, construction worker and electrical worker during his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ashville VFW Honor Guard, Cresson American Legion, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and former President of the Farmland Preservation Committee. He was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. His service and love of country inspired six descendants to carry on his military legacy through service in the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army. Jim enjoyed hunting, farming, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family. He was a fun-loving dad and grandpap with a heart of gold and a head full of wisdom.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026, at St. Monica’s Church, 3037 Colonel Drake Highway, Chest Springs, with the Rev. Justin Treon, as celebrant. Committal and Military Honors will be held at St. Monica’s Cemetery.
