Dec. 22, 1961 – May 26, 2026
Kitt
Gregory W. “Greg” Kitt, 64, of Altoona, peacefully passed away, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Constance (Cherullo) and William Walter Kitt.
Greg was a 1980 graduate of Altoona Area High School and attended Holy Oak Community College in Massachusetts.
He later graduated from the police academy and served as a police officer in Duncansville. Greg enjoyed working for years at UPS and Frito Lay, where he made many friends and was beloved along his routes.
He was very active in the local sports community, where he was known as “Coach Kitt.” Greg was an incredible motivator and basketball, football and baseball coach; and devoted so much to it. The memories he made while coaching were forever cherished and his impact will forever live on in those he guided.
Greg was an undefeated Golden Gloves boxer. He was an avid sports fan of Penn State, the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, nothing brought him more joy than cheering for his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan.
Greg was a member of the Buccinese Society, where he liked to socialize and play bocce with family and friends.
He had an uncanny ability to talk to anyone and truly knew no stranger. He was hardworking, stubborn, tough, passionate, generous, proud and loving. He had the best and most unique laugh.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Donna Wood; and grandson, “Baby J.”
He is survived by loving family including: his life partner, Karen Probst; their dog, Nittany; and their four children: Brittany Pollock (Nick) and their kids, Lucas and Isabell; Brooke Kitt-LeMaster (Toby) and their kids: Avery, Avayah and Jimmy; Gregory AJ Kitt (Ashley) and their kids: Gregory, Miles and Rocco; and DJ Kitt (Bre) and their kids, Damon and Brooks. Also surviving are his brothers, Bill (Linda) and Bart (late Doll); and his Uncle Soxie and their families; as well as his dear lifelong friend, Mark Rehm (Terri).
Greg’s family was his pride and joy. He was loved beyond measure. He will be missed more than words can say. He will live on in all who knew and loved him.
