Gorman ‘Gorm’ Peters Jr.
Peters
Gorman “Gorm” Peters Jr., 86, of Gallitzin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg. Born in Altoona, he was the son of the late Gorman Sr. and Bertha (Clark) Peters.
Gorm was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois (Cox) Peters. They were married on April 28, 1962, at St. Patrick’s Church, and shared nearly 59 years of love, laughter and happiness while raising their family in faith.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Renee (Donald) McHugh, Leah (Donald) DeGol, Christopher (Maria) Peters, Heather (Alan) Wahl and Brandon (Sarah) Peters; grandchildren: Sean, Angela and Rachel McHugh, Joshua and Hailey DeGol, Jaimei, Christopher and Anthony Peters, Nathan and Taylor Wahl and Abigail, Cameron and Julian Peters; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy (Bryon) Mazzocco and Daniel (Leslie) Peters.
A hardworking and devoted family man, Gorm dedicated many years to his work at Calandra’s and JennMar before retiring. He was proud to serve his community as a member of the Gallitzin Volunteer Fire Company, where he volunteered as a fire policeman.
Gorm found joy in life’s simple pleasures — tending his garden, enjoying sports, playing cards and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed sharing memories from his youth playing basketball for Gallitzin High School, advancing to the Western Finals in 1959. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart as he truly cherished every moment watching them grow. Above all, he treasured time with family, celebrating holidays, special occasions and the many adventures he shared with Lois over the years.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, devotion to family and the love he showed to those around him.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Gibbons-Houser Funeral Home Inc., Gallitzin, where a vigil prayer service will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, with Father Albert Ledoux, celebrant. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.
Gorm spent some of his final months thriving with the community at John Paul II Manor in Cresson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gorman’s memory to John Paul II Manor, 856 Cambria St., Cresson, PA 16630.
