Faye Louise Steele, 99, Tyrone, passed away Sunday. She was born in Worth Township, Port Matilda, the daughter of the late Florence M. Long of Tyrone.
She is survived by a very close cousin, Mrs. Louise Giedroc of State College; and close friends, William and Shirley Fink of Tyrone; along with numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia S. Parks; a brother-in-law, David J. Parks; and her cousin, Mrs. Carol McCloskey of Port Matilda.
Faye was a graduate of Tyrone High School, Class of 1945, and continued to remain active with her class through her participation in the planning of class reunions and other class-related activities.
She was employed by the Claster Lumber Co. at both the Tyrone and Philipsburg facilities for 47 years, beginning her career in 1945. Hired as a bookkeeper, she held that position for 31 years. Faye received a promotion to branch manager and held that position for 16 years, retiring in 1992. Following her retirement from the Claster Lumber Co., she served the United Methodist Conference as financial secretary, as well as being in the Church Trustee Committee. The last several years, she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Faye was a member of the Business and Professional Woman (BPW) organization, working for equality for all women in the workplace, serving as treasurer for a number of years. She was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, one of the largest fraternal organizations in the world, serving as an auxiliary floor officer.
She served as the 5th Ward Election Board Majority Inspector of elections for many years and still found time to volunteer at the Epworth Manor Gift Shop. Faye was also a past member of the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Chamber Board of Directors. She also bowled in several bowling leagues through the years, played in several card clubs and belonged to a sewing club.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone, with the Revs. James House and David Dearing officiating.
Interment will be made following the service at Blair Memorial Park.
