Evelyn M. (Treese) McCully
1931 – 2026
McCully
Heaven welcomed a spark of mischief with the passing of Evelyn M. (Treese) McCully, 94, who died peacefully Friday evening, May 8, 2026, at Masonic Village of Elizabethtown after a brief illness, her daughter Lisa at her side.
Ev, as she was affectionately known, was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William T. and Gertrude E. (Shuey) Treese.
She married Brinton “Britt” McCully on June 21, 1963, at Ward Avenue Presbyterian Church, Altoona. Their mutual affection for argument persisted through 55 years of marriage, until Britt’s passing on April 22, 2019.
Ev is survived by her daughter, Lisa, and her partner, Christine, of Elizabethtown; her brothers, Robert “Bobby” Treese of Boynton Beach, Fla., and John Treese of Batavia, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Marilyn McCully of Elizabethtown; and the many generations of nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Evie and shared countless stories, smiles and a touch of her good-natured fun.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie “Marge” Burget; and brothers, William “Bill” and Harry.
Ev was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School. She served as an operator with Bell Telephone for many years in Altoona with her constant companions in adventure, Linda Akins and Barb Good. Where there was laughter and mischief, the trio could be found.
After the birth of her daughter, Ev embraced her role as a domestic engineer and continued to delight in shopping, ceramics and arranging flowers. A loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football, Ev cheered faithfully each season, providing her own spirited colorful commentary.
As Ev wished, her family will celebrate her life in a private gathering. Arrangements are by William P. Spence Funeral & Cremation Services, Manheim.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602; or another local animal rescue.
