Nov. 7, 1936 – May 18, 2026

Bowman

David Harvey Bowman Sr., 89, of Keswick, Va., formerly of Hollidaysburg, died peacefully on Monday at Martha Jefferson House in Charlottesville, Va. Born in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Thelma May Stauffer Bowman and William Bishop Bowman Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Bishop Bowman Jr.

Dave was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Colgate University and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Eye and Ear Foundation of Pittsburgh.

Dave was especially proud of his service as a lieutenant in the Navy Medical Corps.

He eventually settled in Hollidaysburg and founded Altoona Ophthalmology Associates.

Whether at work, the hardware store or church, Dave never met a stranger. He was kind and generous to all. He especially loved to engage anyone who would listen with tales from his youth, history and politics. His sharp wit and profound sense of compassion was truly special.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Nancy Reed Rowland Bowman of Keswick, Va.; his cherished children: David Harvey Bowman Jr. (Maki), Rebecca Linton Eustis (David) and Jennifer Reed Forslund (Glenn); his adored grandchildren: Jessica Bowman, Cameron Forslund, Kendall Forslund and James Eustis; his sister, Mary Jane Bowman Noerr; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dave will be remembered and missed as a devoted husband, a loving father and an admired grandfather.

The family would like to thank the staff at Monroe Health and Rehabilitation Center, Martha Jefferson House, Commonwise Home Care and Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Eye Bank Association of America (restoresight.org/support-ebaa).

Condolences may be sent to the family on the tribute wall at hillandwood.com.
