Daniel Phillip George

April 22, 1945 – May 3, 2026

George

Daniel Phillip George, 81, of Cresson, passed away on May 3, 2026, surrounded by his family after battling multiple myeloma for nine years.

He was born on April 22, 1945, to the late Leo and Sarah (Helsel) George.

Dan was the beloved husband of Monna Sheehan George, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage after they were united on Dec. 4, 1971. He was a proud and devoted father to Denise (Scott) Guzic, Dana (William) Farmer, Dawn (Randy) Augustine, Daniel (Amanda Kozak) and Leo (his faithful four-legged child).

His greatest joy was his four children, often affectionately referring to his three daughters as his “three little geese.” He was also a cherished grandfather to 10 grandchildren: Jacob (Amanda), Lauren, Elizabeth, Isaac, Alison (Brady), Adam, Anna, Samantha, Maxwell and Benjamin; and a proud great-grandfather to one great-grandchild, Jacob.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald George and Robert George. He is survived by his sister, Deborah George. Dan graduated from Lilly-Washington High School in 1963 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1966-68. Following his military service, he dedicated 35 years of his career to Verizon, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability and steady, patient nature.

A lifelong member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Lilly, Dan faithfully served his church community in many ways, including time on church council. He also took great pride in maintaining the historic town clock, quietly ensuring it rang every hour, keeping time for the entire community.

Dan was known as someone who seemed to know everything. He always had an answer to any question and a solution to every problem. He approached life with patience and determination, whether it was fixing something broken or helping his son locate his truck somewhere deep in the woods stuck in mud.

He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. His children often joked that he was the only biker who wore chaps and listened to Marty Robbins. He also found great satisfaction in woodworking and took special pride in crafting a complete bedroom set for each of his children — lasting gifts that reflected both his skillful hands and his remarkable patience, as well as his deep love for his family.

Dan was a proud patriot who flew his American flag daily. A quiet fixture of the community, he was the anonymous neighbor who played Taps each night as the sun set over Cresson, a tribute he performed faithfully, seeking neither credit nor fanfare. Dan will be remembered for his patience, his steady presence, his quiet service to others, his deep love for his family and his unwavering pride for his country.
