Charles R. “Charlie” Burk, 86, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday morning, May 16, 2026, at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Homers Gap to Harry and Catherine (Barrett) Burk.

He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1959, where he played football, baseball and wrestled. Charlie went on to build a career as a dedicated mechanic and HVAC technician, retiring after 30 years with Ward Trucking. He also worked at Brumbaugh Auto Body for 17 years, as well as Sky Bros and Motor Freight Express.

Charlie was deeply involved in his community. He taught hunter safety courses at a local sportsman’s club and served as a board member of the Hopewell Senior Center. He also volunteered at the annual Oyster Supper at Bedford Forge Community Church.

A devoted family man and outdoorsman, Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and spending time with his family. He especially loved his grandson and attending his baseball games. Raising his daughter and being a firefighter were among his proudest accomplishments. He was a valued member of the Lakemont Fire Company for more than 50 years and took great pride in preparing their famous chicken BBQ meals. He was also a lifetime member of the Hollidaysburg Fire Hall.

Charlie married Shirley Ann Deem on May 12, 1973, at Lakemont Methodist Church. Shirley preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 2023, after 50 years of marriage.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Maryann Burk, and her fiance, Charles Cook; grandsons: De-Charles Cook, Jamil Cook and Joseph Cook; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Burk, and wife, Shirley, of San Angelo, Texas; sisters: Janet Kilpatrick of Jackson, Miss., Joyce Carper of Tyrone and Jeannie Kay Rightnour and husband, Kenneth, of Altoona; sister-in-law, Donna Brawley; brother-in-law, Gary Deem, and wife, Marjie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Burk; brother-in-law, Robert Deem; brother-in-law, Wilson Carper Sr.; brother-in-law, Donald Brawley; sister-in-law, Connie Cronemiller; nephew, Michael Rightnour; and great-nephew, Ambrose Bowers.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2026, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at the funeral home, with Pastor Stewart McClelland. Private interment will be at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
