Calvin James Ates

Calvin James Ates, 27, Nanty Glo, died Monday. He was born in Johnstown, the son of James and Lori Ates. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Dorothy Stoy, Calvin Ates and Virginia Ates; an aunt, Louise Baker; and an uncle, Donald Ates. Surviving are his parents; siblings, Savannah and Jimmy; grandfather, James “Gus” Stoy; an aunt, Dessa Walbeck; and a large extended family. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Arrangements by Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville.
