Samuel H. Pierce Sr., 69, of Altoona, went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2026, at UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Kenneth Davis and Carrie Pierce. He was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Mable Pierce.
Samuel is survived by his sons: Samuel, Xavier and Quintus Pierce. He is also mourned by Henry, Troy and Dana Agnew; Amanda Johnson; his brothers, Wendell and Bryant; and his sister, Juanita Davis.
Samuel was a graduate of Altoona Area High School, Class of 1974. Following his graduation, he was employed by PPG as a technician.
He attended Mother Gethsemane Church.
Known to many as “Big Sam,” he enjoyed watching westerns and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sam will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Mother Gethsemane Church, 511 11th St., Altoona, officiated by Pastor Robin Ross.
