Lechene
John Andre Lechene, 70, Patton, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona, after complications of battling several serious illnesses for the last six years. He was born in Warren, Mich., the son of Leo and Rose Marie (Hoste) Lechene.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Mark Lechene.
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Kathryn (Schlimm) Lechene, known by many as Kathy or Katie; sons: Benedict (Gina) Lechene, Mathias (Kara) Lechene and Theodore (Lyndsay) Lechene, all of Patton; and the grand-children he adored: Claire, Owen, Lance, Noah, Trenton, Madisyn, Elliott, Emery, Malea, Theodore Jr. and Jacob; siblings: Louise Lechene of Lexington, S.C.; Leon Lechene of Cherry Tree; Kevin Lechene in South Carolina; Annette Ebbs of Northern Cambria; Suzette Lechene of Gettysburg; Mary Bennett of Shelocta; Denise Botsford in Indiana; and Tom Lechene of Etters, Pa.
John was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
He was employed as a Petroleum Equipment Specialist for many years, having worked for Hoover Gas & Oil, Bolger Brothers, George I. Rietz & Sons and most recently supporting his son, Ted, with TJL Petroleum & Fabricating. He loved his work and the people he encountered through the years.
In the community, he was a member of the Coalport Moose Lodge, Patton Sportsman Club and a social member of the Coalport VFW and Carrolltown American Legion.
John was passionate about people, gatherings and parties at their home — friendly and engaging, interested in everyone he met. His free time was spent enjoying motorcycle trips with friends and later with his Camaro.
So proud of the sons they raised, he was available in an instant to lend a hand or help them with any task. At home, he was content spending hours mowing in the fields of the farm he loved. John “lived large” and enjoyed life each day knowing that his faith and his love of family were his greatest gifts.
Family and friends will be received from 9 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with Father Bob Reese officiating.
Arrangements are by Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John’s memory will be used to establish a scholarship fund for students who pursue careers in the trades. Donations can be made to John Lechene Memorial Scholarship, Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, 216 Franklin St., Suite 400, Johnstown, PA 15901. (cfalleghenies.org/fund/lechene-scholarship).
