Alden S. Browne, 90, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away Saturday at The Winds at Mattern Orchard.
He was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, son of the late Andrew and Pauline (Stowers) Browne. On May 20, 1956, he married Donna Henry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years; a son, Jay Charles Browne of Altoona; a daughter, Debra D. Solomon (Sam) of Altoona; three grandchildren: Greg Bayles, Alison Kane and Eric Bayles; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Adrian Browne (Bonnie) of Maquoketa, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Lowell Henry.
Alden was preceded in death by two sisters, Mavis and Marla.
He was a graduate of Monmouth High School in Monmouth, Iowa. Alden served in the U.S. Army and spent two of the four years serving in Germany. He retired as supervisor of the Maquoketa Water Authority and previously worked for Clinton Engines and Gambles Department Store as a manager. He worked all of his life on the family farm. He was a founder of Baldwin Sportsman’s Club and was a member of the Joinerville Boat Club and NRA.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, wine and beer making and making his own homemade maple syrup.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026, at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Chaplain Timothy Guyer.
A future memorial service will be held at a later date in Iowa.
