Mary Ann Larson, 85, Altoona, passed away Friday evening at Celebration Villa, Duncansville, surrounded by her loving family, after an extended illness.
Mary Ann was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Herbert J. and Eleanor (Myers) Ergler. On Feb. 6, 1960, she married Robert J. Larson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2025.
Surviving are five daughters: Deborah Lafferty (Don Gildea) of Altoona, Sandra Stover (Wade) of Bellefonte, Theresa Gildea (Andrew) of Ephrata, Nancy Adams (Chad ) in Florida and Krista Gardner (Mike) of Pittsburgh; two sons, Thomas Larson (Julie) of Duncansville and Joseph Larson and fiancee, Laura, of Greensburg; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters: Rose Marie “Posey” Barroner (Rod) of Altoona, Katheryn Knott (Larry) of Altoona, Francine Adkins (Gary) in South Carolina and Christine McConnell (David) of Altoona; two brothers, Daniel Ergler and Thomas Ergler (Jeannie) both of Altoona; an honorary daughter, Colleen Mar (Roger) in Ohio; a sister-in-law, Norma Ergler; brothers-in-law, Tony Koehle and Mike Waksmunski; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jessica Marie Larson; a brother, James Ergler; and sisters, Suzanne Koehle and Carolyn Waksmunski.
Mary Ann was a 1958 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was active with the Christian Mothers.
She enjoyed pinochle club, camping and shopping with her sisters and was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul Food for Families.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, Father Lubomir Strecok, celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Celebration Villa, especially the loving employees in the memory care unit, who referred to Mary Ann as “Gram” and also “Goldilocks” because they would often find her in other resident’s rooms.
