Joseph Patrick Leyo, 91, Irvona, died Saturday at his residence.

He was born in Rosebud, son of the late Joseph E. and Agnes (Kruise) Leyo. On Oct. 8, 1955, in Madera, he married Margaret L. Durica, who survives; along with sons: Joseph (Susan) Leyo of Irvona, Mark E. (Beth) Leyo of Atwater, Ohio, and Patrick (Mary Ann) Leyo of Hastings; daughters, Marianne (Gary) Rydbom of Irvona and Christine (Andy) Mulhollen of Glasgow; 13 grandchildren: Emily, Alyson, Joseph, Brian, Benjamin, Lindsay, Meagan, Mara, Brady, Nathan, Katianne, Ryan and Molly; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cecilia Bandrowsky of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, David Rydbom.

Joe was a 1953 graduate of BCI, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. He took over his father’s legacy of the Leyo’s Grocery Store of Coalport and Patton, one of which is still operated by his children. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the former Coalport-Irvona Rotary Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and a life member of the NRA. He also sat on the Board of Directors of the former CSB Bank and proudly supported the local fire and EMS departments.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his family, especially going on trips to Montana.

Friends and family will be received from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, where a vigil service will be held. Joe was a life member of St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, Coalport, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Fr. Zab Amar, celebrant. Burial will be at St. Basil Cemetery, Irvona.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local fire and EMS departments.
