John J. ‘Butch’ Montgomery

John J. “Butch” Montgomery, 78, of Ligonier, formerly of Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday in Ligonier. He was born in Altoona, to the late John and Frieda (Fuchs) Montgomery.
Butch graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1965 and went on to Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind.
On June 5, 1971, in Warsaw, Ind., he married the love of his life, Carol Rufenbarger. She survives in Ligonier.
He is also survived by his son, Matthew “Matt” Montgomery; grandsons, Hunter and Holden; and sisters, Sandra Ickes and Linda Miller.
Butch retired as a sixth grade teacher from West Noble Middle School. He also owned and operated Ligonier Asphalt Sealing.
In his free time, Butch enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his pride and joy were his grandchildren. He loved reading to his grandsons and taking them out on the four-wheeler.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services.
