Jan. 7, 1931 – March 10, 2026

Burger

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward A. Burger, who departed this life peacefully and into eternal life on Tuesday at the age of 95. Ed was born in Blue Knob to Dorothy and Elwood Burger. Ed was one of seven children and is survived by his sisters: June, Matt and Romona.

On Aug. 3, 1949, in Williamsburg, he married the love of his life, Helen Frye, and was a devoted husband for 65 years until her passing in 2015.

Ed was predeceased by a son, Eddie Alan; a sister, Lorraine; and most recently, his twin brother, Woody.

Ed was a loving and supportive father to his three children: Karen (Herm) Arnold, Larry (Joleen) Burger and Christine (Mark) Hughes. “Pap Ed,” as he was lovingly known, loved children and was blessed with seven grandchildren: Michael and Jeff Rupeka, Jamie Houck, Kristie Burger, Cody and Casey Gorsuch and Elle Detwiler; 14 great-grandchildren: Abigail and Andrew Rupeka, Tyler, Josh and Lexi Rupeka, Justin and Juliana Houck, Avery Brown, Skylar, Raiden, Rowen and Maverick Gorsuch, and Ashtyn and Foster Gorsuch, all of whom he loved and adored. Pap’s smile when the children were around will forever be etched on our hearts.

Ed attended Williamsburg High School. He was a skilled welder and worked for the Williamsburg Papermill and retired from Conrail after many years of service.

One of Ed’s greatest passions was the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and a mentor to many hunters in Williamsburg. He especially enjoyed hunting turkey and deer with his son, Larry, and building tree stands for his ground. Pap Ed was well known to take rides in his truck with his Conrail jacket on, French vanilla cappuccino from Nic’s in hand, looking for turkey and deer. He was also known for his exceptional ability to “call in” turkey gobblers. He loved to talk about hunting to anyone who would listen and he will forever be remembered for his love for hunting.

Ed also had a passion for growing a garden and took great pride in his garden’s produce. He was well known for sharing his produce to anyone who would take it.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service for Ed. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. A memorial service will immediately follow.

Arrangements are by Fink & Stone Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Williamsburg.
