Donald Gene Shaffer

Donald Gene Shaffer, 89, Woodbury, passed away Saturday at his residence.

He was born in Potter Creek, son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Clouse) Shaffer. Gene first married Florence (King) Shaffer on March 5, 1955, in Bedford. She preceded him in death on April 2, 1967. He then married Peggy (Ritchey) Shaffer on Jan. 4, 1970, in McConnellsburg. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2023.

Surviving is a daughter, Sabrina K. Will (Joe); a son, Mark A. Shaffer (Julie); as well as six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca A. (Shaffer) Hazenstab; as well as siblings: Ronald Dean, G. Reid and LaRue.

Gene was a 1954 graduate of Replogle High School. He retired as a sergeant with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. He was a member of the Curryville Covenant Brethren Church and owner of Shaffer's Train Shed -- later, Shaffer's Full Steam Ahead Hobby Shop.

He was a model train enthusiast, enjoyed designing and hand-painting metal soldiers and was an avid reader.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Curryville Covenant Brethren Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, Pastor Matt Moushlian officiating. Interment will be at Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury.
