Vera J. Whetstine, 77, of Altoona, died Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Frank E. and Mary M. (Bare) Black.
She married David L. Whetstine on Oct. 7, 1977, in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2024.
Surviving are two daughters, Angela L. Stich (Frank Singley) of Boalsburg and Julie A. Whetstine of Altoona; three grandchildren: Madelyn Watt, Eliot Stich and Alayna Price; a sister, Ruth Cessna of Altoona; and numerous extended family members.
Vera was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Aaron Whetstine; two sisters, Judy Long and Nancy McClellan; and a brother, Ronald Black.
Mrs. Whetstine was a member of Mardorf United Methodist Church, Altoona.
She was a 1966 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
Vera had previously been employed as a draftswoman by Gwin, Dobson, & Forman, then by the EADS Group and finally by Stiffler/McGraw with 35 years’ service. She was also concurrently employed as a Direct Support Professional by Skills of Central Pennsylvania.
Vera enjoyed attending Zumba classes, doing Yoga, helping at church and volunteering at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, but she most especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
A funeral notice will appear in a future edition of the Altoona Mirror. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
