Yeckley

Twyla Louise Yeckley, 93, of the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday after an extended illness. Born in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer D. and Zoeolla (Diehl) Yeckley.

Twyla graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1949 and went on to study at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning her Bachelor of Science in art education in 1954, and her Master of Science in English education in 1967.

Her career carried her through classrooms in Hollidaysburg, Corning, N.Y., and Northern Bedford County before she returned to Hollidaysburg Junior High School as an English teacher and eventually as department head.

After retiring from public education, Twyla founded I Design, an interior design business she operated for 20 years. She later returned to education, teaching for nine years at the Huntingdon Learning Center in McMurray, retiring in 2012.

She found joy in painting, reading and traveling throughout her life.

Twyla was "adopted" into the family of her dear friend, Virginia Bowman, and became an integral part of Bowman family life. She was the beloved "Aunt Twyla" to Eric and Joshua, two of Virginia's grandsons, who lived nearby in Pittsburgh and have cherished memories of their summer vacations with her.

Twyla was elegant, artistic and deeply loved. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service to celebrate Twyla's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Benevolent Care Fund of the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, 220 Newry St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.

Condolences may be made at www.stevensfamilyfuneralhomes.com or Stevens Family Funeral Homes Facebook page.
