Robert N. Lucas

Robert N. Lucas, 94, of Tyrone, passed away Feb. 15, 2026. He was born in Tyrone, a son of the late Gilbert and Helen (Smith) Lucas.
On April 19, 1958, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tyrone, he married Dorothey “Dolly” Widney who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Steven R. (Joan) Lucas and Marilee (Brian) Murphy; three grandchildren: Morgan (Doug) Rudy and Macey and Steven M. Lucas; two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Parker Rudy; and a sister, Pat Lucas.
Robert was preceded in death by three siblings: Jack Lucas, Jeanne Mahoney and Beverly Lucas.
He was a 1949 graduate of Tyrone High School and attended Franklin and Marshall College.
Robert served honorably in the U.S. Army.
He worked for Westvaco as an edgemate before relocating to Maryland where he continued selling wood products for the company until his retirement.
Robert had a passion for athletics that started at a young age. He excelled in football at Tyrone High School where he played on the 1947 and 1948 undefeated teams his junior and senior year. He was also a member of the basketball team. After high school he received a football scholarship to Franklin and Marshall College. He was a member of their undefeated team in 1950 that received an invitation to the Gator Bowl. He was a member of the F&M College Hall of Fame for both football and basketball.
Robert was a member of Tyrone’s semi-pro football team following his military service. He continued to enjoy playing multiple sports in men’s adult leagues in both Tyrone and Bowie, Md. He later took up and excelled in golf and once shot his age while in his 80’s. He was a lifelong Penn State fan and loved Duke Basketball.
He loved his grandchildren more than anything and made it a point to be at their sporting events.
A celebration of life for Robert N. Lucas will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
