Richard E. “Dick” Hileman, 81, of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord late Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Marion E. and Miriam A. (Hicks) Hileman.
He married Dorothy J. “Dottie” Jones on June 18, 1966, at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Dottie: three children: son, Shawn P. Hileman (Sharee) of Wetumpka, Ala.; daughter, Sherri L. Osborn (James) of Altoona; and son, Scott M. Hileman (Nicole) of Altoona; six grandchildren: Cody Hileman (Alyssa), Courtney Hahn (Josh), Dakota Hileman (Erica), Samantha Wood (Jarrod), Camden Hileman and Owen Hileman; seven great-grandchildren: Brynleigh, Preston, Willow, Rylee, Christian, Nolan and Ellie; a sister, Connie Sell of Painesville, Ohio, and her children: Kevin, Jeff and Greg.
Mr. Hileman was a member of Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, Altoona.
He was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School and attended the National School of Aeronautics, Kansas City, Mo.
Dick was a U.S. Air Force combat veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict from 1963-67, attaining the rank of Airman First Class.
He retired as a letter carrier from the United States Postal Service in 2005 following 33 years’ service. He was previously employed as a machine operator by SKF USA Inc. and Sylvania.
He enjoyed yard work, reading and traveling.
Dick was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona; and from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at noon Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brian Sandell officiating. Military honors will follow. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park.
