Mary Jo Cherry

She married Thomas H. Cherry on June 5, 1954. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2010.

Surviving are three children: daughter, Beth A. Monahan (Stephen) of Altoona; son, Thomas C. Cherry (Jennifer) of Carlisle; son, Timothy J. Cherry (Amy Adams) of Altoona; six grandchildren: Troy Monahan (Natalie), Todd Monahan (Bobbi), Justin Cherry (Brooke), Nicholas Pryor (Stephanie), Nate Cherry and Adalynn Cherry; six great-grandchildren: Brycen, Carter, Ryan, Coraline, Lillian and Bethany; and numerous extended family members.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by a son, William Cherry; a daughter, Marie Cherry; and six siblings: Robert, George, Dick, Carl, Blanche and Ruth.

Mrs. Cherry was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

She was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School.

She enjoyed bowling and cooking, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Jo was an avid sports fan, following Penn State football, Pittsburgh Pirate baseball and Pittsburgh Steelers football.

She enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune” daily.

Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Father Brad Baldwin officiating.

Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
