Kathryn Marie Clabaugh Jacobs
May 12, 1928 – Feb. 9, 2026
Jacobs
Kathryn Marie Clabaugh Jacobs, 97, of Altoona, went into the arms of Jesus on Monday with her daughter by her side. She was born in Atlantic City, N.J., the daughter of Merdie Lee Collier and Mary (Bossert) Collier.
She went on a blind date with Donald Paul Clabaugh and they were married on Feb. 28, 1948, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Juniata. Don preceded her in death after 64 years of marriage.
After Don’s passing, Katie reconnected with George Jacobs, a high school friend. She married George, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Sonya Vonada and husband, the Honorable Robert E. Vonada II of Hollidaysburg; stepdaughter, Cathy Jacobs Foy (Brian) in Minnesota; Samantha Leskie Jones (Rob) in California, whom Don and Katie helped raise; four grandsons: Robert (fiancee, Kayla Mainor), Donald, Andrew and Matthew Vonada; and sons-in-law, Terrance Detwiler and Dr. Jeffrey Miller.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Claudia Marie Detwiler and Dana Jane Miller; and brothers, Dan Collier and Jack Collier.
Katie attended Altoona High School, Class of 1947. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years, where she taught Sunday school and was a Pioneer Girls leader. She faithfully attended Grace Bible Church with Sonya’s family for the last 20 years.
Katie was a lifelong artist. Her primary medium was watercolor. She presented a show of her works at the Blairmont Club in November. She was also a skilled seamstress.
Katie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed preparing holiday meals and attending concerts and sporting events of her grandsons.
Above all, Katie was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Through her heartache of losing two young daughters and two devoted husbands, Katie was an example of Christ’s love and steadfastness. She witnessed to most people she met and led many to salvation. This was her true legacy.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, at Grace Bible Church, 164 Laurel Lane, Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. with the Rev. William Pepper officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to missionary Stephen Baggott, a missionary to Africa whom Katie and Don supported for many years. Donations can be made to Fellowship International Mission – Stephen Baggott #155135, 55 S. 24th St., Allentown, PA 18104.
