Joseph F. Geissinger, 76, of Duncansville, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona. He was the son of Joseph and Anna (Schackner) Geissinger.
Joseph married Sylvia Barbu on June 3, 1972, and together they raised two children, Leah and Joe.
He was a 1967 graduate of Altoona Area High School and earned his associate degree in engineering from Penn State University. Joseph began his career with PennDOT before joining the Department of the Interior, where he served for 31 years as Director of the Office of Surface Mining.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Regina Wolf and Arlene Weller.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his son, Joseph; his daughter, Leah (Daniel Green); and his grandson, Max Green. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Susan Wright (Barry), David Gehret (Sandy) and Cindy Gehret (James); as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews: Travus Gehret, Kari Klinefelter, Marissa Rhoads and Garrett Madigan.
Joseph enjoyed skiing, where he met his wife Sylvia, on the slopes at Blue Knob, and golfing, where he enjoyed walking the courses in the evenings searching for his lost golf balls. He took pride in working around his home on endless projects and treasured time spent with family and friends.
Joseph always had a story to tell or a history lesson to share and was never at a loss for words. He was a devoted family man, always willing to help a friend, and his kindness and generosity touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. by Father Michael Pleva.
