Chung Sun Woo, 99, of Ebensburg, peacefully passed away Tuesday at The Villages of Maple Heights. She was born in Kaesong, Korea, to Nai Hung Yoo (father) and Won Chung (Sung) Yoo (mother), and grew up under the Japanese occupation of Korea.
She attended the top elementary and middle/high schools, landing in the top 10% before immigrating on full scholarship to the U.S. to attend Briarcliff Junior College and Bard College, before earning a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University.
She served as Director of Social Services at the Ebensburg Center for her entire professional career.
"Sunny" was preceded in death by Dr. Philip Woo, her husband of 60 years; as well as two older sisters; and a younger brother.
Surviving are children, Dr. Philip Woo Jr. and wife, Elizabeth "Beth" Harrington, and Dr. Elizabeth Woo "Betty" and husband, Steve Baker; grandchildren: Christian, Ryan, Mia, Dane and Corinne.
Friends will be received at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, in the narthex of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, followed immediately by funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Father Brian Warchola. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg.
