Richard Allan Gates, 60, of La Jose, passed away at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. He was born in Charleston, S.C., the son of Bernard Sr. and Anna (Yost) Gates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dennis O. Gates; and his beloved dog, Duchess.

Surviving are siblings, Bernard (Diane) Gates Jr. and Barbara "Jeanie" (James) Fickes; nieces, Kelly M. and Kristen P. Fickes; and nephew, Michael J. Fickes.

Richard served in the United States Army.

He also was a retired corrections officer, last serving at Benner Department of Corrections in State College, and was currently a driver for Med-Van Transport in Cresson.

He was a member of the Masons in Ebensburg and the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona.

Richard enjoyed being a Shriners Clown, bowling, hunting, pool league and traveling on his Harley.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 692 Glendale Valley Blvd., Fallentimber. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.
