Myra Sue Simmers

Myra Sue Simmers, 89, of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning at Hilltop Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late James Arthur and Marilla Elizabeth (Rudasill) Nevel.
She was twice married: first to George A. Lynch, then to Arkie V. Simmers, both of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are four children: son, James A. Lynch (Lori) of York; son, Allen L. Lynch (Carmie) of Brackenridge; daughter, Brenda L. Himes (Bill) of Bellwood; and son, Arkie V. Simmers Jr. (Wendy) of Elizabethville; six grandchildren: Damian Lynch, Jordan Simmers, Alisha Simmers, Connor Himes (Rachel), Peyton Simmers and Caleb Simmers; three great-grandchildren: Sophia, Lexi and Merida; a brother, Paul J. Nevel (Betty) of Altoona; and numerous extended family members.
Myra was preceded in death by a son, John Richard Lynch on March 4, 2015; and two brothers, Jake Nevel and Tom Nevel.
She was a 1955 graduate of Altoona High School.
Myra retired as a cashier from Kmart following 15 years’ service.
She enjoyed reading, especially home health care volumes and romance novels.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
