A pioneer in the global art market, Michael John Plummer died after a brief illness in the arms of his husband, Joe-Hynn Yang.
He is survived by his beloved partner of 23 years, Joe-Hynn of New York City, N.Y.; his mother, Carolyn Reilly Plummer of Hollidaysburg; siblings: Christopher Plummer of Sunnyvale, Calif., Carolyn Plummer (White) of San Diego, Calif. and Patrick Plummer of Hollidaysburg; a brother-in-law, Joseph White; a niece, Lauren White; and several aunts, uncles and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, A. Paul Plummer.
Michael grew up in Hollidaysburg and was a 1976 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School. Widely known for his visionary spirit, he was co-founder of Artvest, an art finance advisory firm which provided counsel to Fortune 500 companies. He was instrumental in establishing the landmark art fair, TEFAF New York, which he led to profitability and prominence in its first year. He held senior executive roles at Christie’s, Sotheby’s and most recently, Heritage Auctions. He was a proud alumnus of The Wharton School. He was a passionate educator, mentor and community leader.
A memorial service is being planned for late February or early March in New York City.
