Larry D. Stitt

Larry D. Stitt, 73, of Altoona, passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his family, Tuesday evening after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Merle D. and Janet (Donley) Stitt.
Larry married Kathy M. Moore in 1972 at St. Johns the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont.
Surviving are his loving wife, Kathy, of nearly 54 years; a son, Bryan D. Stitt (Andrea) of Quinton, Va.; two daughters, Lisa M. Stitt and Erin M. Stitt, both of Altoona; six grandchildren: Brandon, Zach, Cooper, Ella, Tenley and Rilynne Stitt; his brother, Gary Stitt (Peggy); and sister, Joyce Henninger all of Altoona.
Larry was a 1970 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Army veteran with 12 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He retired from Conrail after 28 years of service. Larry had an extensive career with the PIAA as a long-time official for football, basketball, softball, baseball and volleyball for 40 years.
Larry was a member of Park Hills Country Club.
He was an avid golfer who enjoyed hunting and his Wednesday evening trips to Al’s Tavern.
Ultimately, he loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren’s sporting events.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, in the Stevens Memorial Chapel, with Barry Fox.
