James Clark "Jim" O'Harrow, 75, longtime superintendent of the Claysburg-Kimmel School District and a beloved educator and community leader, passed away Dec. 4, 2025, while residing at Heritage Oaks of Englewood, Fla.
Born in Kittanning, Jim was a graduate of Shannock Valley High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in music from Grove City College in 1971 and later completed master's degrees in education and music at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He began his career as a music teacher in the Fairview School District, later serving as assistant principal at Northwest Area School District before joining Claysburg-Kimmel High School as principal in 1979.
Jim served the Claysburg-Kimmel School District until his retirement in 2010, including 27 years as superintendent. Known for his ability to connect with students and staff alike, he was widely regarded as a steady leader and a friend to all. During his tenure, the district completed major elementary and high school renovation projects. He also served as an adjunct professor at Gannon University.
Jim was married earlier in life to Mary Lee O'Harrow, with whom he shared three children. He was later married to Mellodye O'Harrow, who preceded him in death in 2014. He later married Ginny O'Harrow, with whom he shared more than 10 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny O'Harrow; his former wife, Mary Lee O'Harrow; his children: Kelli O'Harrow, Jonathan O'Harrow (William Baumann) and Adam O'Harrow (Kelley); his granddaughter, Layla Jade O'Harrow; and his sister, Arla "Jonny" Hilovsky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Presbyterian Church in Englewood, Fla.; or the Mision Peniel ministry in Florida.
An open-house style memorial will be held in remembrance of Jim from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at Marzoni's Brick Oven and Brewing Co., Duncansville.
