Duane E. ‘Dewey’ Adams

Duane E. “Dewey” Adams, 78, of Logan Township, died Sunday, at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Loyall C. and Betty J. (Snyder) Adams.

He is survived by his wife of

37 years, Jane L. Carothers; and their children, Ian R. Adams and Sarah Adams; his brother-in-law, James R. Carothers (Carlene); and niece, Emily.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David C. Adams.

Dewey was a 1965 graduate of Altoona High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State University in 1969. He was a member of the Pershing Rifles unit of the Altoona Campus ROTC during his two years at Penn State Altoona.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1972 and continued his military service as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, serving as the unit commander for the 442nd Field Service Company in Bellefonte.

He began his financial services career with Household Finance, continuing as a management trainee at Central Counties Bank, Altoona. There he became a branch manager and commercial lender. Following the bank’s mergers with Mellon Bank (Central) and Mellon Bank, he became the senior commercial officer and manager of the Business Banking Center for the area, and continued in that position after the bank’s acquisition by Citizens Bank. He then joined Portage National Bank, later Mainline National Bank, as senior vice president and senior business development officer. In 2013, upon his retirement from Mainline’s successor, S&T Bank, he was honored by Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation with the Richard L. McMaster Award. Over the course of his banking career, he completed training at Bucknell University, Pennsylvania School of Banking, Central Atlantic School of Commercial Lending and National Commercial Lending Graduate School at the University of Oklahoma. He was currently serving as the chair of The Progress Fund Loan Committee.

Dewey became a certified scuba diver while in Okinawa. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. He sailed for many years at Glendale Lake and on the Chesapeake Bay and chartered sailboats several times in the British Virgin Islands. He was a life member of the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association and a member of the American Legion, Loretto Post No. 748, and of Providence Presbyterian Church, Altoona.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Hilary Livingston officiating, with military funeral honors to follow. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park.
