Carolyn Jane Johnson, 94, of Tyrone, most recently of Garvey Manor, died Thursday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late Harry "Newt" and Dorothy (Ross) Husted.
On Aug. 22, 1952, she married Gene A. Johnson, who died Aug. 24, 2015.
She is survived by a son, Gene A. "Sparky" Johnson of Roaring Spring; a daughter, Jill Johnson of Tyrone; her grandchildren: Jennifer Panasiti, Susannah
Miller and Naomi Johnson; great-grandchildren: Jenna Panasiti, Oaklee Panasiti, Landon Johnson Miller and Naomi Johnson; and siblings: Peggy (Stuart) Naismith, Shirley Conklin, Sandra Lobb and Debbie Womer.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie; son-in-law, Steve Rhoades; and siblings,
Pat Bronson and Phyllis Bainey.
Carolyn was a 1949 graduate of Philipsburg High School and graduated from Lock Haven Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.
She was one of the first nurses to work at the new Tyrone Hospital. Carolyn loved her nursing career and working with Dr.
Kathryn Lewis and her many friends.
She was a former member of the Junior Service and Beta Sigma Sorority, and a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Carolyn and her husband founded Johnson Funeral Home in 1955 (now Derman Funeral Home Inc.)
A family gathering will be held from 3 until the
4 p.m. service Friday,
Jan. 9, 2026, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, with the Rev. Jim House officiating. Interment will be private for the family.
